ABOUT ECLIPSES MENTIONED IN PHILOSTRGII'S CHURCH HISTORY
1. In Morozov (1) on p. 314 in chapter I-I wrote about eclipses
description mentioned in
Philostorgii's church history (2), (5, 60):
"In time when Theodosii (II-nd) reached the youth age then in 19 July near eight hours Sun was eclipted so much that even stsrs had appeared, and after this disaster immeadiately the drought so much had appeared that deathness of people and many others. In that time when the Sun was eclipted the similar to rind Sun evidence (Sun corona by Morozov's opinion) had appeared and someone called it as cometa. But this what had appeared was in general unsimilar to cometa because of this light evidence was not long and was unsimilar to any star but was strong, it was the visible flame as same, wothout any star was upper it as shiner".
Hence is going about Sun eclipse 19 July in 8 hours in evening. This eclipse is comprehensively considered in the articles about eclipses mentiioned in Hydatii and then is saying about it in the second chapter and we shall limit the reproducing table from this chapter.
Lisbon Roma
Constantinopol
-103/07/19 07:37 0.661 07:57 0.768 08:19 0.886
418/07/19 10:06 0.967 10:47 1.046 11:18 0.985
939/07/19 07:30 0.990 07:48 0.995 08:08 0.892
Hence we see that in Roma italian this eclipse was complete, in Constantinopol almost complete by this in Roma nearly at 11:15 at local time in Constantinopol nearly 13:00. Hence conclusion: the expression "near eight hours" its necessary to understand as eight hour after Sunrise.
It's also mentioned in Hydatii, Chronica gallica, Chronica Paschale and Annales Chronograph. Veter.
